UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 4 Penn State women’s ice hockey defeated Robert Morris 3-0 in the first Division 1 ice hockey game ever played at West Shore Home Field at Beaver Stadium on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After winning a puck battle on the boards in the defensive zone Leah Stecker pushed it ahead to McKenna Walsh who passed it to Shelby Shane, and she passed it back to Walsh who eventually scored with just under eight minutes in the second period.
- A minute later, Mikah Keller passed it from the offensive zone corner to Grace Outwater in the right side and she chipped it across to Maddy Christian who finished the play to double the lead.
- For the third goal of the game, Grace Outwater went to dump the puck in with just over four minutes to go and it deflected back to her and she beat her defender and the goalie to score.
GOALTENDERS
- Penn State senior goaltender Katie DeSa made 13 saves in the shutout.
- Robert Morris goaltender Maggie Hatch made 39 saves.
STATS AND NOTES
- The Nittany Lions broke their single game attendance record with 1,838.
- McKenna Walsh scored the game-winning goal just under eight minutes into the second period, her first GWG of the season.
- Katie DeSa recorded her 22nd career shutout, continuing to improve upon the program record.
- Grace Outwater has goals in six straight games, the most by a Nittany Lion this season.
- Mikah Keller had two assists, extending her game point streak to three.
- Maddy Christian had a goal to extend her point streak to four games, scoring six points in that span.
- PSU has now outscored RMU 11-0 this season.
