BOSTON – After a road weekend sweep, both Katie DeSa and Danica Maynard have been named for weekly AHA awards, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon. Katie DeSa notched her fourth Goaltender of the Week Award on the season while Maynard also picked up her fourth Defenseman of the Week award.
Katie DeSa made history yet again this weekend, posting her 10th shutout of the season, which is the most in a single season by a Penn State goaltender ever. She made 60 total saves while only allowing three goals over a two-game sweep of Lindenwood this past weekend. She now has a 1.3 GAA and .936 save percentage on the season.
The freshman defenseman stepped up offensively this weekend with limited skaters available and led the Nittany Lions in points with four, all coming in Friday’s 6-3 victory over Lindenwood. Maynard posted a +4 on ice rating through the weekend and is now third nationally in the category while leading all freshman. Her 30 points on the year leads all freshman defensemen nationally.
DeSa, Maynard, and the Nittany Lions end their regular season this weekend at home, hosting RIT at Pegula Ice Arena. Friday’s game is set to begin at 6 p.m. while Saturday’s game will be at 2 p.m. Both games will be streamed on B1G+.
