Men’s Tennis Sweeps Georgetown and Mercyhurst 7-0

The Nittany Lions advance to 9-1

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State men’s tennis team returned home for a doubleheader against Georgetown and Mercyhurst. The team started the morning off with a 7-0 sweep of Georgetown and earned a 7-0 sweep of Mercyhurst in the evening. 

 

Marcus Schoeman and Kyle Chesman were the first doubles team to defeat their opponents in both matches. Reiya Hattori, David Lindsay, Michael Wright, Chesman, and Schoeman all achieved two singles wins in the doubleheader. 

 

 

GEORGETOWN 

 

Doubles 

 

On court three, Chesman and Schoeman found a 6-3 victory over Jonah Hill and Cyrus Zia. 

In a heated battle on court two, Lindsay and Hattori defeated Joshua Lamm-Bocharov and James O’Sullivan 6-4, earning Penn State the doubles point. 

Wright and Lindsay’s match went unfinished against Burke Pablo and Arthur O’Sullivan when the teams were tied at 5-5. 

 

 

Singles 

 

Lindsay swiftly took down Zia 6-4, 6-4 on court four. 

Schoeman put up a fight against Lamm-Bocharov and earned the 6-1, 7-5 victory. 

Hattori faced off against James O’Sullivan on court three and won 6-2, 7-6 (7-2). 

Wright defeated Arthur O’Sullivan on court one 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. 

Matikainen took down Sahil Morey on court five 6-1, 3-6, 10-5. 

Chesman concluded the Nittany Lions’ clean sweep by defeating Hill 6-4, 6-1. 

 

 

MERCYHURST 

 

Doubles 

 

Chesman and Schoeman finished first in doubles and defeated Mykailo Polishchuck and David Mengher 6-2. 

Hattori and Lindsay faced Danylo Rekun and Lukas Cabue and won 6-4, earning Penn State the doubles point. 

Matikainen and Wright finished their match against Colm Schultz and Petar Belosevic, winning 6-4. 

 

 

Singles 

 

Hattori faced Schultz on court four and defeated him 6-0, 6-0. 

Lindsay took the victory over Belosevic on court three, 6-2, 6-1. 

Schoeman showed down on court one against Rekun and found a 6-1, 6-4 victory. 

Wright took down Cabue on court two, winning 6-3, 6-4. 

Chesman faced off against Polishchuck in spot five and won 6-3, 6-4. 

Christos Glavas played in spot 6 and defeated Nikola Radisic 7-6 (7-2), 6-3, leading to Penn State’s second sweep of the day.
