UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 4 Penn State women’s ice hockey fell in overtime 3-2 to RIT on Friday night at Pegula Ice Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first period, early in the second Danica Maynard won a puck battle behind the net and passed it to Maddy Christian who banked the puck off an RIT defender’s foot and into the net to give Pen State a 1-0 lead.
- Four minutes later, RIT tied it up when Penn State turned the puck over in their defensive zone and RIT’s Buziak took a shot from the blue line that ricocheted into the goal.
- Four minutes after that, RIT’s Rulle took a shot from the point and Ireland Stein jammed in the rebound to make it 2-1 Tigers.
- With less than a minute left in the second period, Mikah Keller won a draw to Katelyn Roberts and she took a shot that found its way through traffic to knot the game at two.
- Nearly four minutes into overtime Barnes of RIT beat Katie Desa in overtime to win it for the Tigers.
GOALTENDERS
- Penn State senior goaltender Katie DeSa made 25 saves in the loss.
- RIT goaltender Brenna McNamara made 34 saves in the win.
STATS AND NOTES
- Maddy Christian extended her point streak to eight games, she has 11 points in that span.
- Katelyn Roberts had a goal to extend her goal streak to four games.
- Roberts now sits at 99 career points.
- Both of Penn State’s conference losses have come in overtime this season.
- Mikah Keller registered her 22nd assist of the season, leading all Penn State forwards.
