RICHMOND, Va. – Redshirt senior Colin Fitzgerald tossed six shutout frames to lead the Penn State baseball team to a 5-0 win over Richmond on Friday afternoon at Pitt Field. Spencer Barnett launched two solo homers. Penn State improved to 2-2, while Richmond dropped to 3-3.
Fitzgerald made his second start of the 2026 season for the Nittany Lions. His tremendous outing included six shutout frames and eight strikeouts. He allowed seven hits and two walks. Fitzgerald recorded three strikeouts in the third inning and two in the fourth.
Dimond Loosli fired two shutout frames and recorded four strikeouts. He struck out the side in the eighth. Michael Anderson closed out the game with a scoreless ninth.
Glenn Smith got the start for Richmond, going five innings. He allowed one run on two hits. Smith recorded five strikeouts and three walks. Angel Santiago-Cruz gave up three runs (one earned) over two innings. Christian Dray worked two-thirds of an inning and allowed one run. Keane Hyer retired the only batter he faced. Sam Young threw a scoreless inning and struck out two.
Penn State tallied five runs on eight hits. Barnett launched two solo homers. Jayden Davis added two hits, including an RBI double. Bryce Molinaro contributed an RBI single, while Jack Porter had a single and an RBI.
Barnett is the first Nittany Lion with two homers in a game since Jack Porter at Rutgers on May 10, 2025. It was Barnett’s second career two-homer game.
Richmond recorded seven hits. Dylan Winebrenner secured two hits, including a triple. Trevor Dosenbach also had two hits, while Khris Morris had a double.
