Women's Swimming and Diving Closes Final Day of Competition at Big Ten Championships

Markvardt makes third finals of championship week

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Penn State Women's Swimming and Diving finished the final day of the Big Ten Championship at Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.

The Nittany Lions had three swimmers and one diver advance to finals over the course of the championship. On the final day, Margaret Markvardt earned a spot in the 200 IM C final.

Markvardt's strong performance earned her first place in her heat, placing 17th overall with a 1:58.41.

The 400 Free relay team of Markvardt, Katie Ketter, Cyrah Robinson, and Audrey Cohen placed 12th overall, swimming a 3:18.36.

On Wednesday, the 200 medley relay team of Markvardt, Cohen, Robinson and Ketter swam a 1:37.91, good for 10th place, while the 800 free relay team of Catherine MeisnerMorgan MooreJulia Meisner, and Julia Barto swam a 7:16.93, placing 13th.

On Thursday, Markvardt and Cohen advanced to the finals in their respective events. Markvardt swam in the B final for the 100 fly, finishing in 15th place with a 52.79, while Cohen swam in the C final for the 100 breast, placing 23rd with a 1:01.78. 

In the 200 Freestyle Relay, Markvardt, Ketter, Robinson and Catherine Meisner combined for a time of 1:30.91, placing 12th.

On Friday, Markvardt returned to finals competition for the second-straight day, advancing to the 100 Back B final. Markvardt placed 15th overall with a 53.18

Moore also advanced to the finals, earning herself a spot in the C Final of the 500 Free. Moore posted a 4:48.59, good for 20th overall.

Grace Brammer’s performance on the 3-meter dive propelled her into the finals. Brammer’s score earned her 14th overall with a score of 270.20

The Big Ten Championships marked the end of the season for the women's swimmers. Divers will continue competition at the NCAA Division I Diving Zones.

The men's swimming and diving teams will hit the road next week to Madison, Wis., to compete at the Big Ten Championship. Competition will run from Feb. 25 to Feb. 28.
