UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — No. 3 Penn State women’s ice hockey defeated Syracuse, 2-1, in the second game of the AHA Tournament Semifinals on Saturday afternoon at Pegula Ice Arena to complete the sweep over the Orange. The team advanced to its fourth consecutive AHA Tournament Championship game with its 31st victory, which ties the program’s most in a season.
After recording her fourth-career hat trick in game one of the series, senior captain Tessa Janecke scored the first goal of the game in the first period. Sophomore forward Abby Stonehouse netted the game-winning goal late in the second period.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With six minutes remaining in the first period, Katelyn Roberts found Janecke one-on-one against a defender. The senior shot a rocket and scored the first goal of the game in the first period.
- Syracuse’s Jackson Kinsler tied the game with a powerplay goal in the second period.
- Following Syracuse’s holding penalty against Janecke, Stonehouse scored a powerplay goal on a redirect in front of the net with less than two minutes until the end of the second period. She was assisted by Grace Outwater and Danica Maynard.
GOALTENDERS
- Penn State senior goaltender Katie DeSa made 15 saves in the win.
- Syracuse goaltender Ava Drabyk made 28 saves in defeat.

- With the win, Penn State matched its program's season-high in victories at 31.
- Janecke scored her 24th goal of the season, extending her lead in points on the team to 44.
- Maynard notched her 23rd assist of the season while Roberts and Outwater tallied their 16th.
- The Nittany Lions' defense held Syracuse scoreless and with no shots on goal through the first period. PSU finished the contest owning a 30-16 advantage in shots.
