UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State track and field athletes, Handal Roban and Boh Ritchie were each named for weekly Big Ten awards, as announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon.
Handal Roban was named the Big Ten’s Track Athlete of the Week with his historic mark at this past Friday at the Penn State National Open. His 1:44.91 in the 800-meter is the fastest in school history and the third fastest indoor 800-meter time in NCAA history. He also now has the 29th fastest indoor time in world history in the event.
On the women’s side of the 800-meter, Boh Ritchie was named the Big Ten’s Co-Freshman of the Week for her efforts in the event. In just her second collegiate race ever, and first 800-meter race since joining the Nittany Lions, she ran the second fastest time in school history at 2:01.60. She finished just behind her teammate Hayley Kitching, who set a new school record in the event.
Roban, Ritchie, and the Nittany Lions are back in action this weekend at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge hosted at Penn State’s Multi-Sport Facility and Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track. Action is set to begin at 9:45 a.m and will be streamed on B1G+.
