No. 4 Nittany Lions Come Back to Defeat Lindenwood on Friday Evening

PSU scored four first period goals en route to a 6-3 win.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 4 Penn State women’s ice hockey team came back to defeat Lindenwood 6-3 to win their record 20th conference game of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Just under three minutes into the game Lindenwood’s Paulinyova made a move to the net and the loose puck found its way to Zsofia Pazmandi who chipped it over Katie DeSa’s pad.
  • Less than 30 seconds later, Danica Maynard led a rush down the ice and shot it, creating a rebound that Grace Outwater stuffed home.
  • Two minutes later, Katelyn Roberts found Maynard in the high slot on the power play and she shot and scored.
  • Two minutes after that, Katelyn Roberts hit a streaking Mya Vaslet who shot it, creating a rebound that Roberts stuffed home to extend the lead.
  • At the halfway mark of the first period, Danica Maynard led a 2-on-1 rush with Maddy Christian and she made a cross-crease pass to Christian who finished the play to make it 4-1.
  • 90 seconds into the second period, Taylor Lum forced a turnover in the offensive zone and passed it towards McKenna Walsh who was on the near post and she tipped it past the Lindenwood goaltender to extend the lead.
  • With under 14 minutes to go in the second period, Paige Cline forced a turnover in the offensive zone and beat Katie DeSa to make it 5-2.
  • With under six minutes to go in the second period, Taylor Lum threw a puck towards the net as Shelby Shane was going towards the far post and Shane tipped it in to make it 6-2.
  • Three minutes later, Molly Henderson got behind the Penn State defense and shot it creating a rebound that Josey Dunne-Weeks put away to make it 6-3.

GOALTENDERS

  • Penn State senior goaltender Katie DeSa made 34 saves. 
  • Lindenwood goaltender Lexington Secreto allowed four goals on seven shots to start the game.
  • Madison Bowtell came in and made 31 saves in relief.

STATS AND NOTES

  • Grace Outwater has goals in eight straight games which is the second-longest active goal streak nationally behind Minnesota’s Abbey Murphy.
  • It is tied for the third longest streak this season with Princeton’s Issy Wunder.
  • McKenna Walsh has goals in her last three games.
  • Maddy Christian extended her point streak to six games, she has eight points in that span.
  • She is now tied with Grace Outwater for the second most game-winning goals on PSU with five.
  • Danica Maynard has scored in back-to-back games.
  • She also tied her season-high with four points.
  • Maynard is also now tied for third nationally with a +40 on ice rating this season.
  • Shelby Shane scored her first collegiate goal.
  • PSU has won 20 conference games for the first time in program history.
  • Taylor Lum had two assists for the first time this season.
  • Katie DeSa made 34 saves which is her second most in a game this season.
