Penn State Sends Seven Nittany Lions to NCAA National Fencing Championships
Penn State fencing begins the National Fencing Championship on Thursday, March 19 at the University of Notre Dame
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men’s and women’s fencing teams finished the first round of postseason competition at the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Championships on Sunday, March 7. The regional championships served as the qualifier for the National Fencing Championships, where seven Nittany Lions will compete.
NCAA SELECTIONS
Tingwei Xu will represent the men’s epee squad. Xu, a senior from Suzhou China will make his way back to the championships after finishing in 10th place at the 2025 National Fencing Championships.
Allegra Cristofoletto will make her second appearance in the National Fencing Championships after finishing in 14th place at the regional championships on Sunday. In the 2025 National Fencing Championships, Cristofoletto earned 12/23 wins and finished in 9th place overall.
Two Nittany Lions will represent the men’s foil team in South Bend, Tit Nam Cheng and Spencer Burke. Cheng will make his second appearance after a 15th place finish in 2024 while Burke earns his first nod at the championships.
On the women’s side, Samantha Catantan will fence foil after winning the Mid-Atlantic/South regional championships on Sunday.
Neil Lilov will compete for the men’s saber team at the University of Notre Dame. In last year’s championships, Lilov finished one place out of earning All-American status, finishing his 2025 season in 9th place at the championships.
Eunyu Kim will continue her impressive junior campaign to represent the women’s saber team. Kim finished last year’s championships in 14th place overall.
NEXT UP
Penn State will prepare for the NCAA National Fencing Championship that will be hosted in South Bend, In. at the University of Notre Dame. The championships will begin on Thursday, March 19 and finish on Sunday, March 22. The women will compete first on Thursday and Friday followed by the men on Saturday and Sunday.
