Sam Catantan Earns Women’s Foil Second-Team All-American Nod at National Fencing Championships

Penn State women’s fencing finished competition at NCAA National Fencing Championships

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women’s fencing team finished competition at the NCAA National Fencing Championships in South Bend, In. at the University of Notre Dame.  

Senior Sam Catantan earned her first nod to the Second-Team All-American after finishing in 8th place in women’s foil at the championships, winning 14/23 matches. Catantan’s Second-Team All-American accolade comes after winning the Mid-Atlantic/South regional championships for the women’s foil team. 

WOMEN’S EPEE  

Going into the last day of competition for the women’s team, Allegra Cristofoletto completed her sophomore season at the National Fencing Championships in 15th place, winning 10/23 bouts.  

In the fourth round of pool play, Cristofoletto earned a 5-touch bout win in the fourth round of pool play. 

Cristofoletto finished 2-2 in the last round of pool play, with a 5-touch bout win.  

WOMEN’S FOIL  

Catantan continued pool play going into the second day of the National Fencing Championships. In the fourth round, Catantan took away a 5-touch bout win with three losses. 

In the final round of pool play, Catantan earned a 2-2 record, with both wins being 5-touch bout wins.  

WOMEN’S SABER 

Eunyu Kim earned 9th place overall for women’s saber, one spot out of an All-American nod, winning 11/23 bouts to wrap up her junior campaign at Penn State.  

Kim continued competition for the women’s saber team. In round 4 of pool play, Kim finished with a 2-2 record.  

In the final round of pool play, Kim earned a 5-touch bout win.  

NEXT UP 

The Penn State men’s team begins competition at the NCAA National Fencing Championships on Saturday, March 21 in South Bend, In. at the University of Notre Dame. Competition begins at 9 a.m. with men’s epee.
