No. 3 Women’s Ice Hockey’s Janecke and Maynard Earn AHA Weekly Honors

Tessa Janecke earned AHA Forward of the Week while Maynard was named AHA Rookie of the Week

BOSTON – Tessa Janecke and Danica Maynard of No. 3 Penn State women’s ice hockey garnered AHA weekly honors. The conference announced Janecke as its Forward of the Week and Maynard as its Rookie of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.

AHA FORWARD OF THE WEEK: TESSA JANECKE

  • Janecke was dominant in her return to Penn State after winning a gold medal with Team USA at the Winter Olympics. She scored four goals in Penn State’s sweep of Syracuse in the AHA Semifinals. 
  • In game one of the series, the senior captain recorded the fourth hat trick of her career with a goal in all three periods. The Nittany Lions went on to win the game, 7-0. 
  • She followed it up with another goal in PSU’s 2-1 win over the Orange to advance to the AHA Championship.  
  • Janecke leads the AHA in points with 44 off 23 goals and 21 assists. She earned her fourth AHA Forward of the Week nod this season, having been given the honor on October 22, November 25 and January 13. She was the league’s Forward of the Month in September/October and November. 
AHA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: DANICA MAYNARD

AHA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: DANICA MAYNARD

  • Maynard notched an assist in each game of the AHA Semifinals while contributing to a Penn State defensive unit that allowed just one goal in the series. 
  • The Lake Country, British Columbia native currently has 33 points off 9 goals and 24 assists. She has the most points and assists for a freshman defender in the nation.  
  • This is Maynard’s fifth weekly honor and sixth AHA honor overall. She was named AHA Defenseman of the Week on October 14 and 21, November 25 and February 10. Maynard earned AHA Defenseman of the Month for September/October. 

No. 3 Penn State returns to action against No. 12 Mercyhurst in the AHA Tournament Championship on Saturday at 2 p.m. inside Pegula Ice Arena. The Nittany Lions are seeking a fourth straight AHA Tournament title.
