Penn State won three matches against ranked opponents

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men’s volleyball swept the weekly awards from the EIVA on Monday as Owen Rose was named the Defensive Player of the Week and Sean Harvey was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week. The duo earned honors after helping the 17th-ranked Nittany Lions take down No. 15 Ohio State and then No. 19 NJIT twice.

Rose was selected as the EIVA Defensive Player of the Week for the sixth time of his career and the third time this season. He averaged 1.60 blocks/set and added 1.50 kills/set on .619 hitting over the three wins. His top performance came in the sweep over NJIT on Friday as he totaled six blocks and hit .900 with nine kills.

Harvey was named the EIVA Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season after hitting .411 with 3.90 kills/set. He opened the week with a dominant performance in a four-set win over Ohio State, hitting .472 with 20 kills, three digs, and one block. He added 10 kills in the first sweep over NJIT and nine kills in the second sweep over the Highlanders.

Penn State has now won seven weekly awards from the EIVA this season. Harvey has all three of the team’s Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Rose and Ryan Merk each have two Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The Nittany Lions continue EIVA play with a pair of matches at Charleston this weekend. The teams play Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m.
