UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State men’s tennis team opened Big Ten play on Saturday when they took on No. 1 Ohio State in the morning, then faced non-conference opponent Lehigh in the afternoon. The Nittany Lions dropped their match against the Buckeyes 0-4, but defeated Lehigh 4-1.
The Nittany Lions are now 11-4 for the season. Marcus Schoeman earned his 10th win of the season when he defeated Lehigh’s Benedict Horn-Bourque 6-1, 6-4. Lindsay earned his fifteenth win while facing Lehigh’s Kosei Ogata.
No. 1 OHIO STATE
Doubles
Kyle Chesman and Schoeman were defeated by No. 18 doubles pair Bryce Nakashima and Aidan Kim on court two 0-6.
Lindsay and Michael Wright fell to No. 1 doubles pair Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin 2-6 on court one.
Reiya Hattori and Eyal Shyovitz were fighting 1-5 against No. 15 team Alex Onkonkow and Alexander Bernard on court three, but the match was abandoned as Ohio State had already clinched the doubles point.
Singles
Schoeman was defeated by No. 19 Preston Stearns 2-6, 1-6 on court two.
Chesman fell to No. 93 Filin on court five 1-6, 3-6.
Shyovitz was defeated on court six by Bernard 3-6, 3-6.
Wright’s match went unfinished on court one against No. 6 Kim 3-6, 4-5.
On court three, Hattori’s match against No. 22 Jack Anthrop 4-6, 1-3.
Lindsay’s match against Loren Byers on court four was also abandoned at 3-6, 4-3.
LEHIGH
Doubles
Emil Matikainen and Christos Glavas took down Kosei Ogata and Rafael Gracie on court three 6-3.
Hattori and Schoeman were defeated by Henry Stoller and Wyeth Anzilotti on court two 4-6.
Lindsay and Wright fought against Sean Jaeger and Alex Van Lumich on court one, but lost 6-7 (5-7), earning Lehigh the doubles point.
Singles
Wright defeated Jaeger on court one 6-1, 6-2.
On court four, Lindsay took down Ogata 6-3, 6-3.
Schoeman faced Horn-Bourque on court three and won 6-1, 6-4.
Shyovitz took down Ofer Hacohen on court five 6-1, 6-2.
Hattori’s match against Van Lumich went unfinished, with Hattori down 4-6, 2-4.
Matikainen fought against Aleksandar Daskalovic on court six, but the match was abandoned with Matikainen up 7-6 (7-4).
