BUTZE’S BIG ENDING

BUTZE’S BIG ENDING

  • Butze helped lead No. 3 Penn State to a 3-1 finish in the regular season with five points on one goal and four assists. The Nittany Lions capped off a 29-win regular season to set a new program record.
  • The senior saved her best for last as she closed the regular season with the game-winning goal and two assists as PSU defeated RIT, 4-2, at Pegula Ice Arena on February 14.
  • In the penultimate series of the regular season at Lindenwood, Butze tallied an assist in both contests. She helped anchor a defensive unit that registered a shutout against the Lions in a 5-0 victory on February 7.
  •  The Cleveland, Ohio native blocked four shots across the four games as well.

No. 3 Penn State women’s ice hockey defeated No. 12 Mercyhurst for the program’s fourth consecutive AHA Tournament Championship on March 7. With the win, the Nittany Lions secured home-ice advantage for the remainder of the postseason as they host a Regional at the 2026 NC Women’s Ice Hockey Championship.

Penn State will face the winner of No. 6 UConn and No. 9 Princeton on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pegula Ice Arena. PSU looks for its first NC Women’s Ice Hockey Championship win in program history, which would also give the program its first appearance in the Frozen Four. Penn State is hosting the Frozen Four at Pegula Ice Arena from March 20-22.
