Chesman collects second Freshman of the Week award of the season

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Penn State men’s tennis freshman Kyle Chesman has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference on Wednesday. This is the second time Chesman has received the honor this season.

Chesman went undefeated in singles over the weekend against conference foes No. 69 Northwestern and No. 14 Illinois.

The match against Northwestern was tied at 3-3 during Chesman’s singles match. Chesman clinched the match when he defeated Chad Miller 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 on court six, earning Penn State its second conference win and its first win against a top-75 team this season.

Against Illinois, Chesman was the only player for Penn State to earn a singles point by defeating Jeremy Zhang 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (3-7), 10-8.

Chesman has earned a singles victory in the last five matches, and he has 12 total dual match singles wins for the spring.
