Men’s Tennis Earns Conference Win by Defeating Washington 4-3

David Lindsay clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 win

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State men’s tennis team won its match against Washington 4-3on Friday. The Nittany Lions are now 15-10 for the season. 

 

Freshmen Eyal Shyovitz and Kyle Chesman both collected singles points during the match. Sophomore Reiya Hattori earned Penn State its first point of the match by defeating Rohan Belday 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore David Lindsay won the match for the team on court four. 

 

 

Doubles 

 

Michael Wright and Lindsay fell to No. 45 duo Soham Purohit and Brett Pearson on court one, 4-6. 

Christos Glavas and Emil Matikainen were defeated by Belday and Stephane Kamendje 5-7 on court three. 

Hattori and Shyovitz were tied with Nikola Plasvic and Hyeonseok Seo on court two, but the match was abandoned as Washington had already secured the doubles point. 

 

 

Singles 

 

Hattori defeated Belday on court three 6-0, 6-1. 

Chesman took down Plavsic in spot six 6-2, 6-3. 

Shyovitz faced Seo on court five and won, 6-2, 6-3. 

Schoeman was taken down by Kamendje on court two  4-6, 6-7 (1-7). 

Wright dropped his match against Purohit 3-6, 6-7 (3-7). 

Lindsay clinched the match for the team by defeating Pearson on court four 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2. 

 

 

UP NEXT 

 

The Nittany Lions will hit their home courts for the last time on Sunday, April 12, when they take on No. 59 Oregon at 11 a.m. for Senior Day presented by the Penn State Alumni Association. They will then play St. Bonaventure at 4 p.m.
