ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference office announced on Monday afternoon that Penn State’s Rocquette Allen earned her sixth Big Ten Freshman of the Week selection.
With her sixth honor this season, Allen is now one of four players to win at least six Freshman of the Week accolades tied with Izzy Scane and Megan Whittle and just behind Madison Taylor. Her six Freshman of the Week selections are the most by any Penn State player in program history.
Allen capped off the first regular season of her career with another pair of stellar outings that kept Penn State in two close games. In two ranked games just one day apart, the freshman combined for eight points with three goals and five assists while shooting 50% and 83% of her shots being on goal. Against then-No. 6 Johns Hopkins, Allen had a great day spreading out the ball and passing Nittany Lions open, tallying a trio of assists on the night that saw Penn State push the Blue Jays to edge. In the shootout against then-No. 22 Rutgers, Allen not only continued her passing prowess from the last game but also utilized her extensive scoring repertoire to register her sixth game of five or more points this season. Her five points came from a hat trick, her sixth of the season, and a pair of assists. The Mountain Vista product ended the regular season as the Big Ten freshman leader in points and has the second-most goals by any Big Ten freshman.
The Nittany Lions will head to Ann Arbor, Mich. for the Big Ten Tournament starting on Wednesday, April 22. Penn State will take on four-seed and No. 8/7 Michigan in the first round of the tournament at 12 p.m.
