Allen Named Big Ten Freshman of the Year

Allen becomes the fourth Nittany Lion to earn the accolade

ROSEMONT, Ill.  – The Big Ten Conference offices announced on Tuesday afternoon that Rocquette Allen was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. This is the fourth time that a Penn State player has earned the honor, and the Nittany Lions are now tied with Northwestern for the most Big Ten Freshman of the Year accolades with four.

“I am so proud of Rocquette Allen on being named Big 10 Freshman of the Year” said Head Coach Kayla Treanor, “This honor is so well deserved and a true reflection of her hard work, dedication, and heart. There’s nothing better than seeing a young woman set a goal, chase it relentlessly, and watch it become reality.”

Allen’s first year in the collegiate ranks has been sui generis. In her debut season with the Nittany Lions, the Mountain Vista product tallied 45 goals with 22 assists for 67 points, all three of which were the best by any Big Ten freshman during the 2026 campaign. Her 45 goals are tied for the team-high while her 22 assists and 67 points are each third on the team. Her goals total is tied for the sixth-best in the Big Ten while her points and assists totals are ranked 11th and 14th in the conference, respectively.

Throughout the campaign, she has been one of the biggest difference makers not only in the conference, but in the NCAA as a whole and has earned an array of accolades as a result. Allen was named as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week six times in the 2026 season, the most by any Penn State player in program history and is tied for second along with Izzy Scane and Megan Whittle. Her six accolades are only behind Tewaaraton Finalist Madison Taylor for one of the most dominant freshman campaigns in Big Ten history. For her productivity, she was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team at the end of the regular season. Along with her abundance of Big Ten honors, she has also been recognized by national outlets with Inside Lacrosse naming her the seventh-best freshman in the country in the publication’s “Freshman Impact Rankings.”
