Nittany Lions Conclude Day One of Florida Relays

LeClair, Burkhart record top 5 finishes in program history

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State track & field wrapped up a productive first day at the Florida Relays Friday in Gainesville, Florida. Among the highlights included two Nittany Lion athletes rewriting the program record books.

In the women’s 200-meter dash, Marie-Éloïse LeClair began the Penn State results with another solid showing. Her time of 23.14 claimed the fourth-best mark in program history by 0.01 seconds.

The next event delivered another top 5 entry. Collin Burkhart improved his personal best to 221-6.00 (67.53m), moving him into third all-time for the best marks by a Nittany Lion.  

Other notable performances by Nittany Lions included freshman Nolan Carey, who continued his freshman season with a fifth-place 211-0.00 (64.32m) in the men’s javelin. Matt DeMatteo shined as well, finishing at 52.38 in the men’s 400-meter hurdles. Ryan Watson ended the night by running a personal best 3:43.33 in the men’s 1500-meter run.
