UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State track & field concluded its performance in the Big Ten Outdoor Championships Sunday. The Nittany Lions’ only two First-Team All-Big Ten recipients came in the 800-meter run, one each for the men’s and women’s races.
The men’s event went to Allon Clay, who outran the field with a 1:46.58. Clay posted the fastest time in the event in both qualifying and the finals, earning the gold and First-Team All-Big Ten recognition. This continues Clay’s impressive season in the 800-meter run, having taken second in the Big Ten Indoor Championships.
Niko Schultz and Andrew Regnier both joined Clay on the men’s 800-meter run podium, with Schultz placing third and Regnier taking eighth. The trio’s success in the event contributed 17 points to an eighth-place finish for the men, earning 46.5 points.
Hayley Kitching prevailed in the women’s 800-meter run with a 2:01.77, ensuring Nittany Lions took both events at that distance. The Coffs Harbour, Australia native earned her second win in the 800-meter run this season, as she previously prevailed at the Big Ten Indoor Championships.
The only other medalist Sunday came from freshman Trip Campbell, who tied for third in the men’s high jump. Campbell continued his impressive season with a 6-11.50 (2.12m), while Robert Allen placed ninth in the event at 6-8.25 (2.09m).
EVENT SUMMARY
The final day of competition began in the women’s triple jump, where Lizzie Schreiber cleared 40 feet, jumping a 40-9.75w (12.44m).
The next field event was the men’s pole vault, where Tristan McGarrah turned in a 16-7.50 (5.07m).
A trio of Nittany Lions competed in the men’s shot put, all placing in the Top 15. Dylan Lambrecht finished ninth at 61-0.25 (18.60m), while Bryce Thompson threw a 59-11.00 (18.26m) and Ryan Henry recorded a 59-0.75 (18.00m).
On the track, Nick Sloff began the day by placing fifth in the men’s 1500-meter run. The junior recorded a 4:02.42, scoring four points in the overall results.
A pair of sprinters earned fifth place in their respective 100-meter dash events. Ajani Dwyer ran a 9.93 (5.6w) in the men’s event, while Marie-Eloise LeClair turned in an 11.12 (3.8w) in the women’s event. LeClair also took seventh in the 200-meter dash as well at 22.80 (6.0w).
The last points of the day came from the men’s 4x400-meter relay team. Carter Fitzgerald, Matt DeMatteo, Niko Schultz and Jake Palermo combined to run a sixth-place 3:09.73, earning three points for Penn State in the team competition.
Penn State women’s track & field concluded its performance at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships with 25 points, placing 11th.
UP NEXT
The blue and white will continue their outdoor campaign with the first round of the NCAA Championships. The four-day meet begins Wednesday, May 27 in Lexington, Kentucky and runs through Saturday, May 30. Qualifiers are expected to be announced the week of May 18.
