EUGENE, Ore. – Rising sophomore Nolan Carey of the Penn State track and field team earned a spot on Team USA for the World Under-20 Championships after winning the USA U20 javelin title Thursday afternoon at Hayward Field.
Carey recorded a throw of 66.38 meters to claim the national title. His mark came on his second attempt of the preliminary round and secured his place in the final round, where it ultimately stood as the winning distance.
Rising sophomore Bryce Thompson will also compete at the USA Under-20 Championships, taking part in the shot put on Friday at 7 p.m. ET, where he will look to earn a spot on Team USA’s Shot Put team for the World Under-20 Championships.
The World Athletics U20 Championships are set to take place August 5-9 at Hayward Field.
