UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women’s volleyball landed two players on the Preseason All-Big Ten Team on Thursday. Kennedy Martin earned the honor by a vote of the coaches for the second-straight year. She was joined by Alexis Stucky, who receives the accolade prior to her first season in Happy Valley.
Just 18 players were selected for the preseason award in the 18-team conference. Penn State was one of just nine teams to have a representative on the list of honorees.
Martin is coming off a season in which she was first-team All-America and first-team All-Big Ten selection for Penn State. That came after she set program records for the 25-point rally scoring era in single-season points (728), points/set (6.22), kills (634), and kills/set (5.42). She also owns the program’s records for both points and kills in three-set, four-set, and five-set matches in the current scoring era.
Stucky is set to play her final collegiate season at Penn State, joining the Nittany Lions and former teammate Martin after a highly successful four years at Florida. The setter has earned one All-America honor, two all-region awards, and two All-SEC accolades. She enters the season with 3,047 career assists, 80 aces, and 626 digs.
Penn State will see its first competition of the season when it takes on SMU in the semifinal round of Spikes Under the Lights on Thursday, Aug. 27 at AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys. The team plays its home opener against UConn on Saturday, Aug. 29 at Rec Hall.
