Baseball Welcomes Ten Newcomers For 2027 Season

Nittany Lions add five hitters, five pitchers to roster

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Baseball has added nine transfers and one signee to the roster ahead of the 2027 season. All 10 will join the program in Fall 2026.

 

Led by head coach Mike Gambino, the Nittany Lions added five hitters and four pitchers. Penn State has welcomed RHP Mac Burke (Dartmouth), RHP Luke Calveric (William & Mary), OF/IF Bryce Clavon (Clemson), RHP Zach DenDekker (Loyola Marymount), IF Ryan McKay (Michigan State), LHP Dan Pardini (Christian Brothers Academy HS) LHP Dom Ruggiero (Richmond), OF TJ Schmalzle (Fairfield), IF Anthony Tirado (UMass) and OF Shanley Wall (East Stroudsburg).

 

D1Baseball ranks Penn State as the 26th-best transfer class in 2026.

 

The nine transfers join 12 members of Penn State’s 2026 signing class, IF Logan Aguilar, RHP Hunter Brown, C Mason Campagna, IF Andrew Cross, RHP Ryan Fuller, C Anthony Grippo, OF Jake Kucharczyk, Pardini, RHP Genei Sato, RHP Nolan Stefaniak, RHP Jerek Turlij and IF Mason Wilson.

 

Penn State was ranked as the No. 25 recruiting class in the 2026 cycle by Baseball America. Sato is ranked as the No. 46 prospect in Baseball America’s 2027 MLB Draft rankings. Turlij is ranked as Baseball America’s No. 45 incoming freshmen in 2027, while Brown is ranked 84th.

 

Penn State won 16 games in 2026, including three over RPI Top-100 teams and one over an NCAA Super Regional team.

 

The Nittany Lions finished the year with 72 home runs, including a program-record 20 by Michael Anderson, 15 by Bryce Molinaro and 10 by Spencer Barnett.

 

Anderson (5th round, 149th overall, Texas Rangers) was selected in the 2026 MLB Draft. Anderson, a first-team All-American in 2026, became the first Nittany Lion to be drafted as a two-way player. He is the 85th overall player selected out of Penn State and the 21st since 2016.

 

Anderson became the sixth Nittany Lion drafted under head coach Mike Gambino.

 

Over the last three seasons, PSU has slugged 224 home runs, including 71 in 2024, 81 in 2025 and 72 in 2026. Nine Nittany Lions have hit 10+ home runs in a season.

 

Molinaro enters the 2027 season ranking second all-time at Penn State with 39 career home runs and, in 2026, became the second Nittany Lion to hit 10+ home runs in three-straight seasons.
