UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Matthew Ramirez has been hired as Penn State Women’s Rugby Head Coach.
Ramirez takes over the Nittany Lions program after serving as head coach of the women’s rugby team at Iowa Central CC for the 2025-26 season. He helped to launch the Iowa Central CC women’s rugby program.
From 2021-25, Ramirez was the women’s rugby head coach at Central Washington University. He helped to develop four USA Rugby Eagles, 12 All-Americans, five USA Rugby U20 players, two USA Rugby U23 players, one Canada Rugby U20 player and one MA Sorensen Award Winner for National Player of the Year.
He serves as women’s rugby assistant coach at Central Washington from 2018-21 and was a volunteer coach for the men’s team in 2019-20.
Ramirez was the men’s rugby coach at the University of Nebraska from 2016-18.
Ramirez earned his bachelor’s degree in agricultural journalism from Nebraska in 2006 and his master’s degree in athletic administration from Central Washington in 2020.
