MATCH NOTES

SEASON OPENER
• Penn State is set to open the 51st season in program history when it welcomes UConn, High Point, and Hofstra to Rec Hall for the Penn State Invitational.
• The Nittany Lions are 40-9-1 all-time in season openers. They are 3-1 in season openers under current head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley, including a 3-0 sweep over No. 12 Creighton last season.
• The Nittany Lions open the regular season at Rec Hall for the first time since 2022. That match was also against UConn.

HOME OPENER
• Penn State is 46-4 all-time in home openers. The Nittany Lions are 3-1 under head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley with wins over UConn (2022), Western Kentucky (2023), and Louisville (2024), and a loss to Kentucky (2025).

2026 CAPTAINS
Kennedy Martin, Jocelyn Nathan, and Alexis Stucky were named team captains for the 2026 season. All three are first-time Penn State captains.

UP NEXT
• Penn State heads to Chicago to play Kentucky at Wrigley Field on Sunday, Sept. 6.
• The match is a part of the B1G/SEC Challenge and is the first of a doubleheader at the iconic stadium. Nebraska will play Missouri following Penn State’s match.

SERIES HISTORY - UCONN
• Penn State is 8-1 in the all-time series with UConn. The teams first played in 1977.
• The Nittany Lions lost the first matchup with the Huskies in 1977 but then won eight straight. They swept the most recent match between the teams in 2022 in Katie Schumacher-Cawley’s debut as Penn State head coach.
• Penn State is unbeaten at 6-0 against UConn at Rec Hall.

• Penn State will play High Point for the first time in program history.

SERIES HISTORY - HOFSTRA
• Penn State is unbeaten at 9-0 in the all-time series with Hofstra. The teams first played in 1981.
• The Nittany Lions have lost just two sets through the first nine matches of the series.
• Penn State is a perfect 5-0 against Hofstra at Rec Hall. The last time The Pride visited Happy Valley was in 2019. Current Penn State associate head coach Brian Toron was an assistant coach on Hofstra’s staff.

The wRECking Crew is the official student section of Penn State women's volleyball, and is known for making Rec Hall the most intimidating environment in all of college volleyball. Positioned right along the sideline and on the court, they bring the energy to create and drive our home-court advantage each and every match.

 

Penn State University students receive free admission to all regular-season home women's volleyball matches by showing their student ID at the student entrance of Rec Hall at the North entry nearest the Nittany Lion Shrine. Student section seating is located in sections 101, 102, 103, 108 and 110.

Parking on the Penn State University campus requires a valid university permit or payment of an applicable fee. Parking for Penn State women's volleyball matches is available two hours prior to the scheduled start of the match in the Nittany Deck and West Deck. ADA parking spaces are located near Rec Hall and the Nittany Lion Shrine (valid state-issued ADA parking placard or license plate required, spaces not purchasable through ParkWhiz/HONK - see Accessibility & ADA section below for more details)

 

PARKING PAYMENT OPTIONS

Free Parking:

  • No charge with a valid Penn State faculty/staff or student parking permit.

 

Prepaid Parking via ParkWhiz:

  • Reserve online at ParkWhiz (Link below)
  • Rates:
    • $5.60 if purchase virtually by 11:59 p.m. the day before the event
    • $10 if purchased virtually past midnight on the day of the event
  • View the purchased ParkWhiz pass for the available parking times for each match.

 

Day-of-Event Payment:

  • Available via pay stations inside both the Nittany and West Decks (see in-deck signage for instructions, or speak with a parking representative upon entry) beginning two hours before the start of each match. Take your entry ticket and pay at one of the ground level pay stations before returning to your vehicle.

Penn State Athletics is proud to partner with Oak View Group to offer various concession offerings at Rec Hall! Please note, concessions at Rec Hall are available for purchase via credit/debit card only.

 

Concessions stands are located behind sections 117 and 121 with offerings such as hot dogs, Bavarian pretzels with cheese, cinnamon roasted nuts, popcorn, candy and more. Be sure to visit all of the Rec Hall concessions stands, as featured items may vary at each stand. Additional beverage and snack carts are located throughout Rec Hall on the main concourse and event levels.

 

As a reminder, outside food and beverage is PROHIBITED at Rec Hal.

ADA COMPLIANCE AT REC HALL

Fans with a valid ADA parking placard who prepay for Nittany Deck or West Deck parking through ParkMobile or have a valid Penn State parking permit may also park at the ADA spaces near Rec Hall and the Nittany Lion Shrine. Fans with an ADA placard who have not prepaid for parking may also park in these spaces if available by paying for time using the HONK app (zone No. 95105). If these spaces are unavailable, fans in need of ADA parking should park at the Nittany Deck.

 

Fans requiring ADA access may enter through the ADA entrance located off Curtin Road. ADA seating is located on the West Mezzanine above sections 108-110. Guests interested in other ADA seating options should visit the Ticket Office for assistance. For companion seating on the West Mezzanine, please speak with an usher or security staff member upon arrival.
