Cary, N.C. – The Penn State women’s tennis team wrapped up two days of competition at the ITA All-Americans after competing on Saturday and Sunday. Patricia Grigoras earned a singles victory in the opening round and teamed with Maelie Monfils to add a doubles win.
On Saturday, Grigoras defeated the University of Miami’s Michaela Laki in the first round of singles, 6-3, 6-2. Monfils fell to the University of Oklahoma’s Laura Brunkel, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles action, Grigoras and Monfils defeated UNC’s Alexis Nguyen and Ishika Ashar, 7-6, 6-0.
On Sunday, Grigoras fell to the University of Washington’s Anna-Marie Weissheim, 6-1, 6-0, in the second round of singles. In the consolation bracket, Monfils fell to University of the Pacific’s Indiya McLeod, 6-0, 6-0.
In the doubles portion of the competition, Grigoras and Monfils came up short in the second round against the University of Georgia’s Patricija Paukstyte and Bella Payne, losing 6-2, 6-1.
The Nittany Lions return to action Oct. 2-4 at the Martha Thorn Invitational, hosted by West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia.
