MATCH DAY: Penn State MSOC at Indiana

KICKOFF

The Nittany Lions are chasing an upset this Friday at 1 p.m. when they travel to No. 2 Indiana for a rare weekday matinee at Bill Armstrong Stadium.

Penn State is coming off a closing minutes 1-0 loss to No. 19 Michigan State last week, dropping the overall record to 2-4 and its conference record to 0-2.

B1G THINGS

The Nittany Lions had three student-athletes tabbed as Big Ten Players to Watch. The group includes Daniel Peluffo-Wiese, Noah Förster, and Joe Buckley. 

Through two games, Förster made his impact immediate, dishing an assist on Penn State’s first goal under Coach Dow and earning his first career start in game two. 

Daniel Peluffo-Weise has totaled 15 saves through six contests, averaging 2.5 per game.

Oh Captain, My Captain

Graduate Student Grant McIntosh and sophomore Joe Sheridan will serve as the captainship for Penn State in the 2026 season.

Sheridan was one of three PSU returners from last year’s squad, while McIntosh brings four years of college soccer experience to Happy Valley from Duquesne and Akron.

HOW ABOUT THE HOOSIERS

Coached by Todd Yeagley, who is entering his 17th season with the program and his 18th season as head coach.  

Yeagley served as the head coach for a year at Wisconsin before joining the staff in Bloomington for the 2010 season.

Through 17 years with Yeagley at the helm, the Hoosiers have compiled a 223-76-60 overall record (.705). 

In the 2025 season, IU finished with an overall record of 12-6-1 and a conference record of 5-5-0. The Hoosiers were bounced in the first round of last year’s NCAA Tournament, falling to No. 21 Saint Louis, 1-0.

The Hoosiers entered the 2026-27 season ranked 22th in United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll. After the first six games, the team finds itself ranked No. 2 overall, with a 7-0-2 overall record and a 2-0-1 conference mark.  

Indiana drew #13 Wisconsin in their most recent matchup and most recent contest, 1-1. 

Michal Mroz is the reaigning B1G Goalkeeper of the Week following a season-best performance against the 2025 national champions Washington. He made a season-high eight saves in a shutout win over the Huskies.

Mroz is statistically one of the top netminders in the country. He ranks 10th in save percetnage (85.2 percent), fifth in goals against average (0.44), and is tied for first nationally with five shutouts so far this year.

STORY OF THE SERIES

This game marks the 62nd meeting between the Nittany Lions and the Hoosiers. 

IU leads the all-time series over PSU with a record of 41-15-5. 

Indiana took last season’s matchup handidly, dishing a 4-1 defeat to the Blue & White.  

PSU has not bested the Hoosiers since the 2021 season, when the Nittany Lions secured a 3-0 win in the Big Ten Championship.
