MMATCH NOTES
KICKOFF
The Nittany Lions are looking to get back in the win colummn on Friday night at 7 p.m. in their matchup against the Yale Bulldogs.
Penn State started its season off strong with a comeback win against Mercyhurst, but following a loss at Missouri State and a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Pittsburgh last Friday, the overall record stands at 1-2.
B1G THINGS
The Nittany Lions had three student-athletes tabbed as Big Ten Players to Watch, the conference offices announced Tuesday afternoon.
The group includes Daniel Peluffo-Wiese, Noah Förster, and Joe Buckley.
Through three games, Förster made his impact immediate, dishing an assist on Penn State’s first goal under Coach Dow and earning his first career start in game two.
Peluffo-Weise has totaled six saves in two contests.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
Through three matches, Penn State ranks 24th nationally and first in the Big Ten in Shot Accuracy, getting 55.6 percent of its shots on goal.
Kone is ranked seventh in the Big Ten for Points Per Game, averaging 1.67.
Peluffo-Wiese is currently ranked fifth in the Big Ten for minutes played, having played all 90 minutes of all three games Penn State has played in the 2026 season.
'BOUT THE BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs are heading into their 12th season under head coach Kylie Stannard, coming off a 3-9-3 record in the 2025 season.
Stannard is accompanied by Sean Kelly, Tyler Sheikh, and Michael Mordocco, who will each be entering their first season as assistant coaches for the Bulldogs.
Yale was selected to finish seventh in the Ivy League’s preseason poll.
Yale begins the 2026 season with a 1-1-0 record, including a 2-0 win over Army, earning them their first road victory since Sept. 24, 2024.
STORY OF THE SERIES
This is only the second meeting between Penn State and Yale, with Penn State leading the series 2-0.
Penn State and Yale have not faced off in the modern era.
While the Nittany Lions may be unfamiliar with the Bulldogs, head coach Rob Dow knows the team from New Haven quite well, regualrly scheduling preseason and spring games against them.
Dow faced off against Yale twice while at Vermont, once in the 2018 and once in 2017. He won both contests, both as shutouts, by a combined 4-0 effort.
RELOADED
Penn State has had some major shake-ups in the offseason, from a new staff to virtually an entire roster overhaul.
The Nittany Lions had to replace 14,018 minutes following the spring season, a whopping 83.3 percent of the minutes played last season.
The minutes total was the sixth-most lost minutes in all of Division I men’s soccer, and the percentage was the fourth-most lost nationally.
