ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Penn State men’s soccer earned its first point in conference play under first year head coach Rob Dow, drawing with the Michigan Wolverines 0-0 on Friday night. The Nittany Lions outpaced the Wolverines in nearly every statistical category but were unable to get a tally.
With the result, PSU moved to 2-7-1 (0-5-1 B1G) in the 2026 campaign, while Michigan’s record changed to 3-4-3 (0-2-2 B1G).
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
The Nittany Lions were first squad with a real look on frame when junior Etienne Reck took a rip from outside the Michigan 18-yard box, but the Wolverine netminder made the save to keep PSU off the boards.
Through the 16th minute, PSU had a handle on the momentum, controlling possession and forcing play into the Wolverine’s defensive end. Michigan gained some momentum through the 20th minute, but the Nittany Lions settled down, ending the half with statistical advantages in nearly every offensive category, but just two shots on goal to show for it kept the score level.
Reck was the only booking of the first half, marking the first yellow of his collegiate career.
SECOND HALF
The second half began with more Penn State pressure, leading to an early advantage for the visiting crowd. Senior Noah Andreas was booked in the 48th minute after some incidental contact led to a second yellow on the day for PSU.
The 61st minute gave the Nittany Lions some pause when an initial save by Peluffo-Wiese stayed loose in the box. The Wolverines were able to stitch together a pair of follow up shots, but both stayed off target and PSU was able to hold a level scoreline.
The Wolverines won their second corner of the day in the 74th minute after what looked to be a sure chance at goal for the home crowd when Michigan faced a two-on-one just outside the 18. They failed to connect on the final pass, allowing PSU enough time to recover and force a corner. The corner found a head in the box but ultimately went unthreateningly wide of the frame.
Neither team could early a spot on the score sheet in the second frame, leading to the draw.
In the second half, Penn State had three different plays go to review for a potential penalty kick. All three were concluded to be unworthy of the PK.
