ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference office announced on Monday afternoon that Penn State’s Cam Standish was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. The award is Standish’s first Big Ten weekly award, and she is the second Penn State field hockey player to earn a conference weekly award this season after junior goalie Aby Deverka’s win earlier this season.
Standish earned the accolade after leading Penn State to a pair of dominant defensive showings against fellow Big Ten school Michigan State and Kent State. Between both games, the Nittany Lions’ defense only allowed eight shots to be taken while forcing all of them off-target and not letting a single shot on goal during the weekend. Standish played 108 out of a possible 121 minutes on the weekend.
Penn State will begin a two-game home stand starting with the Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday, October 16 at 5 p.m. for the team’s Dream Crazy game at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex on the Big Ten Network. On Sunday, October 18, the Blue & White will take on the Michigan Wolverines at noon at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex on B1G+. Attendance is free for all field hockey games at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex.
