KETTERING, Ohio – Paced by a third-place finish from senior Alex Creamean, the Penn State men’s golf team finished seventh in the 16-team field at the Moraine Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Miami (Ohio) at Moraine Country Club this week.
The Nittany Lions were among the leaders all week before giving shots away coming in on Tuesday finishing at 17-over, 869. The week was highlighted by an even-par second round on Monday, as they went on to record their second-straight top-10 finish.
“This week was another great opportunity for our team to build and improve. The guys showed a ton of fight on Monday, playing two solid rounds to get into position to contend,” commented head coach Mark Leon. “We got off to a great start Tuesday even securing a share of lead going into the back nine, however, we weren't able to close it out. The next time we are in a position like that, I expect we will use today's experience and improve our ability to close.”
VCU won the event at 7-over, 859, with Minnesota (9-over) and Wisconsin (10-over) finishing just behind while Sam Houston State and Dayton tied for fourth at 13-over to round out the top-five.

Creamean secures his second-straight top-5 finish this season and his second-straight top-three finish in this event after finishing tied for second last season. The senior used a 3-under, 68, and 1-under, 70, on Monday to put himself in position and opened the third round with three birdies over his first five holes, but gave a few shots back on his way in to conclude the day 1-over, 72.
He finished the week as one of just six players in red figures in the 81-player field at 3-under, 210, three shots off the lead.
“Cream played another incredible event for us,” mentioned Leon. “He continues to show an ability to compete among the best golfers in the Big Ten.”
Fellow senior Tim Peters finished the week 4-over, 217, highlighted by a 2-under, 69, during the second round. Peters has now finished in the top-25 in three of the four tournaments this fall.
Freshman John Curran and junior Will Preston each tied for 39th at 9-over, 222, while sophomore Jackson Saroney concluded the week 19-over, 232.
Competing as an individual down the road at the Raider Invitational, sophomore Colton Lusk carded rounds of 72 and 76 to finish 6-over and tied for 33rd in the 52-player field.
