HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST HALF

An early caution to Northwestern in the 13th minute was the first major note of the contest. The warning came after PSU attacker Etienne Reck was pulled to the ground by the Wildcat’s last defender. The call went to official review, and was upgraded to a red card, giving the Nittany Lions an 11-on-10 advantage for the remainder of the match.

The first half ended with a chance for the Blue & White in the 45th minute when a cross from Arian Recinos connected with the foot of Moritz Weber, but the shot was deflected wide for a corner. The corner fell by the wayside with little threat, and the half ended with a 0-0 draw.

SECOND HALF

Despite being down a man, Northwestern took just 48 seconds of the second frame to get on the boards. A long throw in for the Wildcats initially found the foot of a Penn State defender, but the loose ball was sent to the back of the net by and NU attacker, pushing the Wildcats to a 1-0 lead.

Penn State saw another chance formulate in the 58th minute saw another PSU chance, but the shot from Kone deflected off a NU boot for a corner.

It was sophomore captain Joe Sheridan who found the PSU equalizer, cleaning up a shot from Vladislav Cherny and burying the ball past the NU keeper to knot the score sheet at one in the 80th minute.

With less than a minute to go, Sheridan, who was already on a yellow card, was sent off with a straight red for a conversation with a Northwestern defender, giving him an early trip to the locker room.
