Creamean Cards Runner-Up Finish, Men's Golf T-3rd at Quail Valley

VERO BEACH, Fla. – Senior Alex Creamean continued his stellar play to close out the fall carding a runner-up finish, his third-straight top-5, at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational this week. As a team the Nittany Lions finished tied for third in the 15-team field at 9-under, 855, their best finish relative to par of the fall and their second top-5.

Penn State used an 11-under, 277, on Tuesday highlighted by three players in red figures for the day including a bogey-free 6-under, 66, by Creamean.

“Ever since our final round in Kentucky two weeks ago, the guys have gained the confidence to compete at a higher level,” commented head coach Mark Leon. “It was our second week in a row playing in the final group and we did a much better job of battling through to the finish. Alex had another chance to win down the stretch and played like a beast with a final round 66. It was our best event of the fall, in our last event of the fall -- The group has been adjusting and improving with each week. I'm so proud of how they competed this semester!”

Creamean finished the week 10-under, 206, marking the best finish relative to par of his collegiate career. The senior registered just two bogeys and one double while rolling in 14 birdies on the week finishing just one-stroke behind Memphis’ Yixiang Wang for individual medalist honors.

Creamean was one of just 25 players in the 88-player field in red figures for the week and his 10-under score is the lowest 54-hole total for the Nittany Lions since 2021 and tied for the 11th lowest all-time while his 6-under during the final round is tied for the tied for the ninth-lowest single round score in Penn State men’s golf history.

“I was carrying some nice momentum from the past two weeks and my game felt really good,” state Creamean. “My short game and putting were exceptional this week, which really helped me with how windy it was this week.”

Sophomore Jackson Saroney raced 21 spots up the leaderboard on Monday following a 4-under, 68, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole as he finished the week tied for 33rd at 1-over, 217.

Freshman John Curran also had his best round of the week on Monday carding a 2-under, 70, as he finished the week 6-over, 222, and in a tie for 60th position.

Junior Will Preston rounded out the group at 8-over, 224, and tied for 69th.
