UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Men’s Rugby #9 faced a challenging test against Life University #6, controlling the opening 20 minutes before Life seized momentum in the latter stages of the first half. The Nittany Lions battled to respond in the second half but ultimately fell 46–15.
Penn State started strong, establishing control early and setting the tone physically. In the 13th minute, Kyran Rautenbach crossed for the opening try to put the Nittany Lions ahead 5–0. Life responded shortly afterward with a try of its own to level the score at 5–5.
Penn State regained the lead in the 22nd minute when sophomore backrow Kody Goldman scored to make it 10–5. However, the momentum shifted over the next 20 minutes. Life capitalized on its opportunities and scored three tries before halftime, turning a five-point deficit into a 24–10 lead.
The shift in momentum proved decisive. After competing well through the opening stages, Penn State found itself chasing the game as Life carried its advantage into the second half and scored again to extend the lead to 31–10.
The Nittany Lions continued to fight, with freshman winger Will Dadswell scoring in the 55th minute to make it 36–15. Penn State rotated players throughout the second half, giving the matchday roster valuable experience, but Life maintained control and added two more tries to close out the 46–15 result.
For Penn State, the match highlighted the importance of sustaining performance across the full 80 minutes. The Nittany Lions showed they could compete with Life during the opening 20 minutes, but the loss of momentum in the following period left them facing an uphill battle for the remainder of the contest.
Penn State will look to learn from the experience and build greater consistency as Rugby East play continues this Saturday, October 24, against Mount St. Mary’s at West IM Fields in State College at 4 p.m.
