Martin Named AVCA Division I National Player of the Week

She earns the award for the fourth time in her career

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State senior Kennedy Martin was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I National Player of the Week on Tuesday. She earned the honor for the fourth time in her career for her performance in the Nittany Lions’ two nationally-ranked wins last week over No. 10 Oregon and No. 18 Indiana.

Martin had her best week of play this season, hitting .465 with 6.56 points, 5.75 kills, 1.13 blocks, and 2.00 digs per set over the two four-set wins. She matched a season high with 25 kills on .431 hitting while adding four blocks and seven digs in the win over the Ducks. She followed that with 21 kills on .514 hitting in addition to five blocks, nine digs, and two aces in the victory over the Hoosiers.

The national honor comes just one day after Martin was named the Big Ten Player of the Week. Penn State’s Alexis Stucky joined her as a weekly award winner as she was selected as the Big Ten Setter of the Week.

Martin picks up Penn State’s first National Player of the Week award since she earned the accolade last season. Prior to that the last Nittany Lion to receive the award was Jess Mruzik in 2023. Martin is just the fourth player to win the award twice during their career at Penn State, joining Alisha Glass, Megan Hodge, and Micha Hancock.

No. 13 Penn State is back in action against Ohio State on Thursday at Rec Hall.
