BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Penn State swim and dive team closed out competition at the Virginia Tech Invitational at Christiansburg Aquatic Center on Saturday, October 3rd.
The men’s team fell to Virginia Tech (265.50-87.50) and West Virginia (212-141), while the women fell to Virginia Tech (312-41) and Liberty (240-111).
Men
Top Swims:
Following a strong performance from yesterday, freshman Pedro Medrado grabbed first place in the men's 400 IM, swimming a 3:49.19. This was Medrado's third individual event title over the weekend.
Senior Alex Karahalis found himself at the top of the podium in the men’s 100 Fly, tying for first with a 46.85.
Junior Ryan Anselm swam a 1:37.49 in the men’s 200 Free, good for fourth place.
Senior Tylor Kim and Junior Jake Kennedy earned fourth and fifth place in the men’s 50 Free, respectively. Kim posted a 20.14 while Kennedy posted a 20.15.
Sophomore Roman Dawson swam a 9:19.03 in the men’s 1000 Free, good for fifth place.
Relays:
The Nittany Lions found the top of the podium in the 400 Free Relay, with Tylor Kim, Pedro Medrado, Toni Slavica, and Anselm swimming a 2:55.78.
The 200 Medley relay team of Medrado, Gabe Campos, Karahalis, and Kim swam a 1:28.46, good for fifth place.
Diving:
Senior Daniel McGaughey placed ninth on the 3-meter dive with a 215.50.
Women
Top Swims:
The Nittany Lions had a strong showing in the women’s 100 Fly, with sophomores Cyrah Robinson and Mille Evans taking third and fourth place, respectively. Robinson swam a 54.93 and Evans swam a 55.45.
After a solid performance yesterday, freshman Sara McNabb grabbed fourth in the women’s 200 Free, swimming a 1:50.02. Freshman Kate Fedor swam a 57.83 in the women’s 100 Back, good for fifth place.
Junior Katie Ketter posted a 23.12 in the women’s 50 Free, good for fifth place.
Relays:
The 400 Free relay team of Ketter, Cyrah Robinson, McNabb and Julia Shafer swam a 3:28.17, good for fourth place.
The Nittany Lions placed fifth in the 200 Medley relay, with Shafer, Audrey Cohen, Robinson, Ketter swimming a 1:42.85.
Diving:
Senior Abigail Ekstrom placed 15th in the 1-meter dive with a 194.05.
The Nittany Lions will travel to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech in the Georgia Tech Dual Meet Tournament. Competition will run from Friday, October 16 to Saturday, October 17 at the McAuley Aquatic Center.
