LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Penn State men’s golf team raced up the leaderboard in the final round of the Cullan Brown Intercollegiate to finish the week fifth in the 15-team field at 5-over, 857.
The Nittany Lions used the second lowest round of the week on Tuesday firing a 12-under, 272, to climb seven spots over the final 18 holes. Four Nittany Lions finished in red figures on Tuesday to contribute to Penn State’s lowest single round total relative to par in four years and the sixth lowest all-time.
Penn State was paced by senior Alex Creamean who finished the week tied for fifth at 5-under, 208, following back-to-back rounds in red figures of 2-under, 69, and 3-under, 68. The senior carded 15 birdies for the week.
“I started feeling really good and swinging it good at the beginning of the opening round and was able to keep it going for the full tournament,” mentioned Creamean. “I struck my irons really well this week which set me up for a lot of birdie opportunities.”
Tennessee was the lone team under par for the week finishing at 22-under, 830, following a final round 14-under, 270. Mississippi State concluded the week runner-up at even par while NC State (2-over) and Kentucky (3-over) finished just ahead of the Nittany Lions to round out the top-five.

Freshman John Curran carded his lowest round of the season on Tuesday pacing the team at 4-under, 67, moving up 29 spots and finishing the week tied for 36th at 4-over, 217.
Sophomore Jackson Saroney was also a big mover over the final 18 holes as he climbed 26 spots also finishing the week tied for 36th at 4-over, 217, following a final round score of 3-under, 68.
Senior Tim Peters used a final round 2-under, 69, to slide up 22 spots and into a tie for 25 th for the week at 2-over, 215, while Will Preston also had his best round on Tuesday at 1-over, 72, and finished the week 16-over.
“I was happy with how the boys responded to a slow start this week with a monster final round in Kentucky,” commented head coach Mark Leon. “We made a massive jump up the leaderboard and scored some huge wins in the process. The boys played their game and didn’t try to do anything extra; they had something special in the tank this week. We’re excited to get back to work and build on this.”
Penn State takes the quick trip to Ohio next week to participate in the Moraine Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Miami (Ohio) on October 13-14.
