ROSEMONT, Ill. - No. 21 Penn State women’s soccer’s Ellie Kocher was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Tuesday afternoon, per an announcement from the league office. It is the first Big Ten weekly honor for the talented forward.
Kocher, a native of Allentown, Pennsylvania, scored her second collegiate goal in Penn State’s 4-0 victory over Indiana last Friday. Her tally was one of the most impressive of the season as she scored from a nearly impossible angle along the end line and rifled it off her left foot toward the top of the net.
In the contest, she also tied for the team high with three shots in 52 minutes of action.
The freshman forward has recorded five points behind two goals and one assist this season with eight starts under her belt. She is third on the team in shots this season with 25, including five matches with three or more shots.
The Nittany Lions will return to action in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament against No. 16 Purdue on Thursday night in St. Louis. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. (ET) at Energizer Park.
