BACK/FREEMEET NOTES
The Penn State Swim and Dive teams will return to McCoy Natatorium for a dual meet against in-state rival Villanova this Friday, November 6, at 4:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear white for the annual White Out meet.
The Nittany Lions are back in action after the men’s team claimed victory over Pittsburgh last Friday at home, while the women’s team fell in a close battle. They will be looking to build off their success after nine different Nittany Lions claimed event titles last week.
On the men’s side, seniors Alex Karahalis and Tylor Kim lead the way for the Blue and White, each earning two event titles against Pitt. Karahalis was critical in the team’s win in the 200 medley relay, while Kim posted impressive splits in wins in both the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay.
Freshman Pedro Medrado has continued to make an immediate impact on the men’s side, claiming three victories and a relay win. Medrado showed off his versatility versus Pitt, winning the 100 back, 200 back, and 400 IM. He has attained two Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards this season.
On the diving end, Alex Reese took first in the 3-meter dive.
On the women’s side, junior Katie Ketter has shined for the Nittany Lions, setting a new pool record in the 50 free against Pitt, while also grabbing first in the 100 free. Ketter, alongside Gabi Abruzzo, Millie Evans and Audrey Cohen, also took first in the 200 medley relay. Cohen also dominated the breaststroke, taking first place in both the 100 and 200 breast.
Abbey Ekstrom took second place in the 3-meter dive last Friday, while Grace Brammer earned third in the 1-meter dive.
