Fifth-year senior Evan Lewis graduated in May and had not planned to play football this season, but rejoined the team following spring practice. A versatile, multi-talented student-athlete, Lewis began his Penn State career as a cornerback after earning Associated Press PIAA Class AAA Player-of-the-Year honors as a quarterback at Gettysburg High School. After seeing some game action as a wide receiver, he moved to placekicker last season and made a 43-yard field goal against No. 2 Alabama, in addition to six PAT attempts. The quick and instinctive Lewis again will look to be a contributor at wide receiver and on special teams this fall. He also has been called upon to be a productive and elusive quarterback on the scout team. Lewis graduated in May with a degree in kinesiology. He compiled a perfect 4.00 grade-point average during the spring semester and graduated with a 3.44 GPA. Lewis and Nittany Lion tight end Brian Irvin were teammates at Gettysburg High School.
2011 Senior Season
Lewis did some kicking during 2011 spring drills and then shifted from wide receiver to placekicker for the season. He played in four games, connecting on one field goal, a 43-yard attempt against No. 2 Alabama, and 6-of-7 PAT attempts. In the game against Iowa, Lewis ran eight yards for a first down on a fake field goal attempt, extending a drive that resulted in a key three points for Penn State. He earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.
2010 Junior Season
Lewis made his Nittany Lions debut in the wins over Youngstown State and Kent State. He played a significant role in helping the Penn State defense prepare for Michigan by portraying Wolverine quarterback Denard Robinson in practice the week of the game. The Nittany Lions won, 41-31, limiting Robinson to 11-of-23 passing.
2009 Sophomore Season
Lewis delivered dedicated efforts on the practice field and in the weight room and as a member of the foreign team, but did not see any game action.
