After practicing at cornerback and long snapper during his freshman season, Smith moved to safety prior to the 2014 campaign, but didn't see the field after missing the season due to injury. A versatile athlete, Smith will push a young group of safeties for playing time in the secondary alongside safety-newcomer Jordan Lucas and the experienced duo of Marcus Allen and Malik Golden. Smith will also be among the primarily players to contend for time on special teams, where he made his first career tackle in 2013. He is one of 14 returning players on the roster from New Jersey.
