Brandon Spayd is in his third season as the head strength and conditioning coach for the Penn State men’s basketball team and in his sixth working with Penn State programs.
Spayd develops year-round conditioning and strength training programs for the Nittany Lion program, working closely with the athletic trainer and nutritional consultant to create specific plans for each student-athlete.
In the 2014 offseason, Spayd designed and implemented a three-part workout challenge for the PSU players called the Yoke Zone Challenge which has carried over to the 2015-16 preseason. The Challenge pits teams of two against each other in a series of challenging tasks over the course of three weeks.
For three seasons prior, he served as Penn State basketball’s assistant speed, strength and conditioning coach helping to develop and implement a year-round training program for both the men’s and women’s programs.
A 2010 graduate of Juniata College with a degree in sports management and marketing, he earned a master’s degree in exercise science - performance enhancement and injury prevention from California University of Pennsylvania in 2011. He is certified as a U.S. Weightlifting Level I Sports Performance Coach and a NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist. He also holds certifications from the National Association of Speed and Explosion and Level I SKOGG System Coach Certification.
Spayd was a four-year starting strong safety on the Juniata College football team. A two-time team captain, he earned NSCA All-America honors in 2009.
