LION CAREER
2008-09 (JUNIOR): Swam in four races in 2008-09, three of them at Big Tens...Won the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:32.97 vs. St. Bonaventure...Finished 33rd in 1,650 freestyle in a time of 16:06.69 at the Big Ten Championships...Swam 4:06.06 en route to 38th-place showing at Big Tens in the 400 IM...Finished 46th at Big Tens in 500 freestyle in a season-best time of 4:29.70...Named to Academic All-Big Ten squad.
2007-08 (Sophomore): Continued to develop and made the most of his strength through several exhibition swims in his sophomore campaign...Gathered top-five finishes in the 1000 freestyle...Faced tough competition in the 500 freestyle at the Hoosierland Open Invitational and finished 21st in the event...Earned Academic All-Big Ten honors...Finished third in the 500 free and second in the 1000 free against West Chester...Placed fifth in the 1000 free and sixth in the 500 free against Indian River C.C. ...Swam in the 800-meter freestyle at U.S. Nationals during the summer of 2007.
2006-07 (FRESHMAN): Swam primarily as a middle distance and distance freestyle swimmer and also swam a little bit of the 200 butterfly in his freshman season...Swam in the 200, 500 and 1,650 freestyle at Big Ten Championships, with his best finish being 33rd in the 1650...Best times of the year in those three events were at the Big Ten[apos]s...Had one first place finish and one third place finish...Put up a fifth place finish in the 200 fly in his first collegiate meet, the dual meet at West Virginia...Finished fourth in the 200 free and won the 500 free at the Big Cat Invitational...Picked up points for the Nittany Lions in the 800-meter free (12th place) and also swam in the 400-meter free and 1500-meter free at the Bell Grand Prix...Placed third in the 1000 free at the dual meet vs. West Chester...Swam his fastest time of the year in the 200 free and also finished ninth in the 1650 free with his best time at the Shamrock Invitational.
HIGH SCHOOL: Four-year letterwinner at Shawnee High School in swimming and also participated in tennis for one season...Three-time All-Burlington County selection and as a senior was named third team All-State and the Burlington County Swimmer of the Year...As a sophomore, finished seventh in the 500 free at the state meet and then finished eighth in both the 500 and 200 free at the state championships...Broke the school record in the 500 free at states junior year and set the school record in the 200 free senior year.
PERSONAL: Max Ettore is the son of Steve Strauss and Abby Ettore and was born on June 22, 1988...Has an older sister, Nikki, and an older brother Jake, who also currently attends Penn State...International Politics major with the intent to be a diplomat or other politician.
