2007-08: Matt excelled in the butterly and IM events in his freshman campaign. He picked up a first place finish in the 200 fly against West Chester and the 200 IM against West Chester. His best times all came at the Big Ten Championships.
High School: Swam for four years at Germantown Academy in Fort Washington, Pa. and also was on the water polo team for four years....Team had a four-year dual record of 25-7....Helped lead team to the Eastern Championship in both 2005 and 2006 and a second place finish at Eastern[apos]s in 2007....As a sophomore, was the recipient of the Lons R. Spealer Award for achievement....Qualified for Junior Nationals his junior year in the 400 IM and 200 fly....Won the Spealer award again as a senior as well as the KIT award for being the performance individual in relays....Won the Eastern Championship in the 200 IM and as part of the 200 freestyle relay as a senior and also qualified for Senior Nationals in the 200 IM.
Personal: Matt was born on November 21, 1988 in Philadelphia, Pa....The son of Michael and Margaret Cox, he also has an older brother, Andrew (26)....Andrew was a member of the crew team at Marist....Intends to major in kinesiology....Lists playing the guitar, fishing and playing video games as hobbies.
