2015-16 (Ireland)
Spent the year training and competing in Ireland at representing the team at the Olympic Games in Rio … Posted the best finish by a Penn State men’s swimmer at the Olympics and became the first to advance out of the preliminaries, placing 16th (54.40) in the 100m backstroke … Advanced to the semifinals of the 100m backstroke by swimming an Irish record time of 53.85 in the preliminaries (14th) ... Also competed in the 50m free (22.88, 43rd) and 100m free (49.82, 40th) … Is the second from the Penn State men’s side to compete in the Olympics and the first since Eugene Botes competed for South Africa in the 2004 games in Athens … Is the first in program history to return to Penn State after competing in the Olympics … Ryan was also the first Irish swimmer to advance to the semifinals at the Olympics since the 2008 Beijing games.
2014-15 (Junior Year)
Earned First Team All-American accolades after finishing third in the 100 backstroke at the NCAA Championships (3/27), touching in at a season-best 45.24…Earned a team-best 14 first-place finishes for the Nittany Lions in his junior season…Led PSU at the Big Ten Championships (2/28), capturing the title in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 45.54 to make a NCAA “A” cut time…Earned a NCAA “B” cut time in the 100 backstroke at the Virginia Tech Invite (2/7), finishing first in the event…Captured two final titles in the 100 back to kick off the season…Nabbed gold in the 200 backstroke against Villanova (10/31) in the only time he swam the event in the 2014-15 campaign…Won the 100 freestyle in five out of the six times he swam in the event …Notched NCAA “B” cut marks on two occasions in the 100 freestyle, including at the Big Ten Championships where he swam a season-best 42.80 …Garnered a NCAA “B” cut mark time in the 50 freestyle at the Big Ten Championships, finishing in 19.49…Was a member of four separate relay teams…Swam the top time for Penn State in three events including: 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and 100 backstroke…Led the 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay, and 400 medley relay to top times in PSU standings for the 2014-15 season…Helped the 200 medley relay squad to three top finishes, while the 400 free relay team earned two first-place finishes and the 400 medley relay team notched one first-place finishes when he was a member of the team…Earned Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honors once (2/10), collecting three first-place finishes at the Virginia Tech Invite and claimed NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle…Garnered First Team All-Big Ten honors for the second time in his career.

CSCAA All-America honoree ... Swimmer of the Big Ten Championships after claiming gold in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke ... First team All-Big Ten honoree ... Set three individual program records over the season: 19.36 in the 50 freestyle (Big Ten Championships), 42.08 in the 100 freestyle (Big Ten Championships) and 44.78 in the 100 backstroke (NCAA Championships) ... Record-breaking 100 backstroke time placed second at the NCAA Championships ... 42:08 100 freestyle mark at the Big Ten Championships qualified NCAA "A" standards and is a Big Ten meet record ... Competed in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke events during his freshman season with the Nittany Lions ... Named the Big Ten Freshman Swimmer of the Week two weeks in a row (11/13, 11/20) ... Swam a then-personal best time of 20.15 in the 50 freestyle at the Georgia Invite (11/30-12/2), which qualified for the NCAA "B" standard ... Reached the NCAA "B" qualifying mark in the 100 freestyle by turning in a mark of 43.90 at the Georgia Invite ... His times in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events ranked second on the team ... Qualified for the NCAA "B" standard in his only race in the 100 backstroke event, posting a time of 47.07 at the Georgia Invite ... Earned a spot on the USA Swimming National Team after finishing third in the 50 meter backstroke and fourth in the 100 meter backstroke at the 2013 Phillips 66 USA Nationals ...
