- Phillips 66 National Championships (2022): Swam to 26th place in the 100 Back (55.92) and 31st in the 200 Back (2:03.64).
2022-23 (Senior Year):
- Blue/White (9/16): Swam to fourth in the 50 Free (21.54), and later won the 100 Back at 49.69. In the relays, contributed to a win for the 200 Free Relay (1:23.84) with a split time of 21.20.
- Boston College/Navy (10/8): In the relays, landed first in the 200 Medley Relay (1:28.81), and later hit a second place finish in the 400 Free Relay at 3:00.76. In the individual events, broke to first in the 100 Back at 49.99 and later took fourth in the 200 Back at 1:50.64.
- Pittsburgh/Notre Dame (10/22): Contributed to a triad of second place finishes in the 400 Medley Relay at 3:15.36, in the 200 Free Relay (1:21.39), and later in the 400 Free Relay (2:59.96). Team touched third in the 200 Medley Relay at 1:29.19. In the individual races, Byrne finished fourth in the 200 Back (1:49.22) and in the 100 Back (49.22).
- West Virginia (11/5): Took home multiple first place finishes in the relays and in the individual races. Won the 200 Medley Relay (1:29.52) and the 400 Free Relay (3:00.10), and the 100 Back (48.98). Later took a second place finish in the 200 Back (1:48.91).
- N.C. State Invitational (11/17-19): Broke the top 10 in each of the relays. Placed ninth in the 200 Free Relay (1:20.96), fifth in the 400 Medley Relay (3:09.34) and 200 Medley Relay (1:25.92), and later seventh in the 400 Free Relay (2:55.62). In the individual races, finished 34th overall in the 50 Free (20.58), and ninth in the 100 Back (47.33) with an NCAA B-Cut and in the 200 Back (1:44.93).
- Army (1/13): Took a win in both the 200 Medley Relay (1:26.88) and in the 100 Back (48.01). Finished second in the 200 Back (1:47.10) and third in the 200 Free Relay (1:22.12).
- Virginia Tech (1/21): Landed a win in the 200 Free Relay (1:19.49) and second in the 400 Medley Relay (3:10.98). Finished fourth in the 200 Free (1:38.82) and seventh in the 200 Back (1:49.31).
- Villanova (1/27): Won the 100 Back (49.49) and placed second in the 100 Free (46.53).
- Big Ten Championships (2/22-25): Competed for a top 10 finish in each of the relays, finishing eighth in the 200 Medley Relay (1:25.89) and in the 800 Free Relay (6:29.35). Took fifth in the 400 Medley Relay (3:07.75), seventh in the 200 Free Relay (1:18.65), and sixth in the 400 Free Relay (2:55.39). In the 400 Medley Relay, Byrne's 46.83 split of the 100 Back is a personal best and climbed to the seventh fastest on the program's top times list. In the individual races, landed tenth in the 100 Back at 46.49 with an NCAA B-Cut and 17th in the 200 Back (1:44.02). In the 200 Back, Byrne's race was the leading qualifier in his heat to also claim an NCAA B-Cut, as well as for his preliminary race where he swam 1:44.97 for an NCAA B-Cut and a third slot for himself in program history as the eighth fastest for the men's program.
2021-22 (Junior Year):
- 2022 NCAAs (3/23-26): Swam to a new Penn State record as part of the 200 Medley Relay (1:23.85), finishing 21st in the nation. Also competed in the 400 Medley Relay (3:06.40), finishing 23rd.
- Big Ten Championships (2/23-26): Contributed to the record-setting 400 (3:06.36) Medley Relay and placed 13th in the 200 Back (1:44.16).
- NC State Invitational (11/18-20): Finished eighth in the 100 (48.18) and 11th in the 200 (1:45.33) backstroke events.
- Bloomsburg (11/6): Won the 100 Fly (50.26).
- West Virginia (10/16): Led the Nittany Lions to victory with a pair of event wins in the 100 (50.81) and 200 (1:51.67) Back.
2020-21 (Sophomore Year):

Big Ten Championships (3/1-3/6): Notched a 24th-place finish overall in the 100 back C-finals (48.24), swimming a personal-best time in the prelims (48.12) to earn him a spot in the finals. Swam for two additional career-bests in the 200 free (1:37.95) and 200 back (1:46.34). Member of the 800 free relay team that secured a ninth-place finish (6:25.43).
- Michigan State (2/5-2/6): Led the Nittany Lions with three individual event wins in the 200 back (1:50.94), 50 back (22.91), and 100 IM (51.16).
- at Ohio State (1/16): Earned third in the 200 back (1:49.53).
2019-20 (Freshman Year):
- Note: Joined team for the spring semester.
- Big Ten Championships (2/26-2/29): Swam season-best times in the 200 IM (1:50.32), 200 back (1:46.38) and 200 free (1:37.99).
- Bloomsburg (1/17): Placed second in his opening meet in the 100 back (51.33).
- Villanova (1/31): Placed second in the 200 free (1:42.72).
High School:
At the Brisbane Boys College, Lachlan was captain of the mens swimming and diving team his senior year. He achieved team MVP honors in his freshman, sophomore and senior seasons under the direction of head coach Tom Harris. Lachlan was the GPS Open Champion in the 200 IM and holds the club record for the Sunnybank Swimming Club. While at Brisbane, Lachlan competed in basketball, rugby, cross country, cricket, track and field and water polo in which he earned first team honors. He was also awarded Academic Excellence Awards including Academic Scholar and Dux of Economics.
Personal:
Lachlan David Byrne, son of Kym and David Byrne, aspires to work in investment banking after graduating. He has two brothers Matthew and Joshua.
