Before Penn State: Nickerson enters Penn State as a five-star recruit and ranked top 75 in the country. The Louisiana native started playing tennis at the age of six. During his junior career, Nickerson played competitive USTA Junior Tennis and qualified for Grade I ITF. He also competed in Kalamazoo, Eddie Herr, the Orange Bowl as well as hard court and clay events. Nickerson also traveled abroad, playing against multiple international opponents. Nickerson comes from a long line of athletes and was surrounded by competition his whole life. His brother, Trey, played singles and doubles tennis for Florida Atlantic University and his father Gerald Jr. played basketball at University of Redlands. His cousin Abner played in the AFL as well as his grandfather Gerald Sr. who played football for Grambling University. Nickerson’s anticipated major is Biology with hopes to become a Physician, like his father.
