Fall 2012: Welnetz went 7-5 in singles this fall and combined with Tomas Hanzlik to go 3-5 in doubles...Won two matches at the Ranked+1 Invitational, ITA All-American Championships, and ITA Atlantic Regional. Also won a match at the USTA Clay Court Invitational... Defeated Louisville[apos]s Michael Lippins(6-3, 6-2) and Radford[apos]s Joe Mills(6-2, ret(inj.)) at the Ranked+1 Invitational... Won two qualifying round matches at the ITA All-American Championships with victories over Clemson[apos]s Dominique Maden(6-2, 7-5) and New Mexico State[apos]s Luis Fernando Ramirez(6-4, 6-4)... Earned wins against Old Dominion[apos]s Carlos Lopez Villa(6-4, 3-6, 7-6(2)) and Virginia Tech[apos]s Marko Lovrinovic(6-1, 6-3) at the ITA Atlantic Regional... Knocked off Kentucky[apos]s Panav Jha(6-2, 6-3) at the USTA Clay Court Invitational... Hanzlik and Welnetz won two matches at the ITA Atlantic Regional, with wins over St. Joseph[apos]s Max Montague and Andres Urrea(8-1) and UMBC[apos]s Alex Drean and Juan Manual Aranzazu(8-2)... Defeated North Carolina[apos]s Stuart DePaolo and Andrew Gores(8-0) at the Ranked+1 Invitational.
2011-12 Season (Junior): Academic All-Big Ten in 2012... Welnetz had a strong spring, going 14-10 in singles and 12-12 in doubles after going 7-6 in singles and 7-5 in doubles in the fall... Welnetz started the fall season at the Farnsworth/Princeton Invitational where he defeated St. John[apos]s Milo Hauk 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. He also combined with Russell Bader to go 3-1 in doubles... Strong performance at the UVa Fall Classic, going 3-1 in singles and combined again with Bader to go 2-1 in doubles... Went 1-1 at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships, defeating Virginia Tech[apos]s Trpimir Kujundzic 6-4, 7-6(4-0)... At the Big Ten Indoor Championships, Welnetz fell to Michigan[apos]s Eli Brown(6-4, 6-4) in the opening round, but battled back through the consolation bracket with three straight wins, coming against Iowa[apos]s Connor Gilmore(6-3, 6-1), Michigan State[apos]s Gijs Linders(6-4, 6-2), and Minnesota[apos]s Eric Frueh(7-6, 6-2). Welnetz and Bader went 1-2 in doubles, defeating Illinois[apos] Ross Guignon and Bruno Abdelnour 9-8(7-0)... Went 8-3 in spring non-conference singles, with wins against #59 NC State, St. Bonaventure, Lehigh, #32 Virginia Tech, Buffalo, Bucknell, Binghamton, Army, and Central Florida. Won six straight matches... Combined with Hanzlik, Griffin, Hasyn, Young, and Cohen to go 9-3 in non-conference doubles. That included consecutive wins against Bloomsburg, Buffalo, Binghamton, Army, Central Florida, South Florida, and Cornell... Won five conference singles matches. Won three of last four to close out the season, including a 4-6, 7-6(7-4), 11-9 decision over #23 Illinois[apos] Tim Kopinski. Competed in 4th or 5th spot during conference play... Paired with Cohen in a Big Ten win against Iowa(8-2) and with Bader for conference wins over #47 Minnesota(8-6) and Wisconsin(8-5). Worked out of number one or two doubles spot throughout Big Ten play.
2010-11 Season (Sophomore): Went 11-14 in spring 2011 singles play...Posted a 13-15 mark in spring 2011 double play...Began the fall singles season with two victories over Pennsylvania[apos]s Ivan Turudic (6-3, 6-0) and Wotjek Starackiewicz of Buffalo, 7-6 (7), 5-7, 6-3, in the opening rounds of the Farnsworth/Princeton Invitational...Took two matches in the opening rounds of the ITA Atlantic Regionals against Charlie Caris of Georgetown (6-2, 6-4) and Liberty[apos]s Tristann Stayt, 6-2, 6-3...Picked up three wins at the Big Ten Indoors (Oct. 29-31), including a thrilling win over Iowa[apos]s Will Vasos, 7-5, 7-6 (5)...Won his first four matches of the spring 2011 singles season, including a Feb. 5 victory over Dave Thomson of No. 56 N.C. State, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3...Posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Buffalo[apos]s George Tibil on Feb. 13...Earned a win against No. 32 Alabama[apos]s Vikram Reddy, 7-5, 6-0, in the annual Blue Gray Tournament...Defeated Krisztian Krocsko of Purdue in Big Ten play, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, on April 22...Paired with Harry Seaborn in fall doubles play to take down Virginia[apos]s Justin Shane and Philippe Oudshoorn, 8-6, at the ITA Atlantic Regionals...Went on a three-match winning streak from Feb. 5 to Feb. 13, including pairing with Christopher Hasyn to pick up victories against No. 56 N.C. State[apos]s Ivan Sanchez Gomez and Sean Weber (8-7 (6)) and Mirza Klis and Evan McElwain of No. 64 Cornell, 8-4...Defeated No. 30 Virginia Tech[apos]s Trprimir Kujundzic and Lucas Oliveira, 8-2...Won four consecutive matches from March 13 to March 20, including teaming with Hasyn to take down Navy[apos]s Jeremy New and Heyward Drayton, 8-2...Earned a pair of Big Ten victories the weekend of April 8-10 against No. 23 Michigan[apos]s Chris Cha and Chris Madden (8-5), and Jason Norville and Clark Richardson of No. 60 Michigan State, 8-5.
2009-10 Season (Freshman): Posted a team-best 17-8 record in spring dual matches...Had a 5-3 mark in spring doubles competition...Won his first career singles match on Sept. 18 at the Princeton/Farnsworth Fall Invitational over Yale[apos]s Marc Powers (6-3, 7-5)...Defeated Maryland[apos]s Mathias Sarrazin (7-5, 7-5) at the ITA Atlantic Regionals...Earned a hard fought victory over Illinois[apos] Connor Roth (7-6 (6), 3-6, 7-6 (3)) in the first round of the Big Ten Indoor Tournament in November...Won his first two dual matches of the spring on Jan. 24, defeating Princeton[apos]s Coleman Crutchfield (6-4, 6-4) and Lehigh[apos]s Leland Richardson (6-0, 6-1)...Went on a nine-match win streak that went from Jan. 31 to March 15...Knocked off Furman[apos]s Andrei Chvetsov (6-4, 6-4) at ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Gainesville, Fla...Picked up his first ever Big Ten victory after downing Purdue[apos]s Paul Foley (6-3, 6-1)...Followed up that win with a victory over Coastal Carolina[apos]s Plamen Tzvetkov (6-3, 6-3)...Earned a victory at the Blue-Gray Classic over Middle Tennessee State[apos]s Matthew Langley (6-2, 6-3)...Went on a four-match win streak, gathering wins over Iowa[apos]s Tommy McGeorge (7-5, 6-1), Michigan[apos]s Chris Cha (6-3, 6-1), Michigan State[apos]s William Davis (6-4, 6-1), and Bloomsburg[apos]s Lee Wexler (6-0, 6-1)...Earned a point for the Nittany Lions against Northwestern[apos]s Andrew McCarthy (6-4, 6-4)...Earned his first career doubles victory with Guillaume St-Maurice in the fall over Liberty[apos]s Giancarlo Lemmi and Slim Tuus (8-6)...Earned a win with C.J Griffin over Purdue[apos]s Jans-Frans Englebrech and Billy Heuer (8-5) at the Big Ten Indoor Tournament...Won his first four doubles matches of the season while being paired with Griffin and Ryan Gormley...Teamed with Warren Hardie to earn an 8-0 shutout over Bloomsburg[apos]s Lee Wexler and Mark Schroeder.
Junior Career: Winner of the Texas 5A State Tennis Title as a junior in 2008...Was named his team MVP for all four years at United High School...Finished in second place in the National Open in Denver, Colo. at the age of 18...Was the singles and doubles champion at the Texas Open in 2007...Finished first in doubles at the National Open in Montgomery, Ala. in 2007...Finished fourth in singles at the Winter Nationals in 2007.
