Went 2-1 at the ITA Atlantic Regional to reach the Round of 16... Also went 2-1 at the USTA Clay Court Invitational... Won two matches at the William & Mary Invitational... Played at each of the 2-6 singles positions throughout the spring... Won both of his matches at No. 2 against Wagner's Ryan Khan and NJIT's Andres Alban and a match at No. 3 vs. Monmouth's Ale Gomez Estrada... 2013-14 (Junior): Hanzlik did not see any action in the spring due to injury... Hanzlik went 5-5 in singles and 3-1 in doubles this fall...Hanzlik competed at the ITA All-American Championships and Wake Forest Invite... At the ITA All-American Championships, Hanzlik won four straight matches to advance out of the pre-qualifying draw to the qualifying round. He knocked off Murray State's Adam Taylor(6-4, 6-2), Purdue's Szymon Tatarczuk(4-6, 6-2, 6-3), UTSA's Yannick Junger(6-4, 6-4) and UC Irvine's Tyler Pham(6-1, 6-3) on his way to the qualifying round. He fell to Virginia's Justin Shane in the qualifying round. Defeated Stetson's Simon Julin(6-4, 6-2) at the Wake Forest Invite... Combined with Marc Collado to go 3-1 at the Wake Forest Invite, winning 3rd place in their draw. They defeated teams from UNC Charlotte(8-7(4)), East Carolina(8-7) and Furman(8-2).
2012-13 Season (Sophomore): Hanzlik went 18-17 overall and 13-12 in duals during his sophomore year, while competing in the top three singles spots... Also won six doubles matches while pairing with six different partners... Won five singles matches in the fall, highlighted by reaching the final at the Ranked+1 Invitational. On his way to the final, Hanzlik knocked off Memphis' David O'Hare(6-2, 6-0), NC State's Sean Weber(2-6, 6-4, 6-2), and Ole Miss' William Kallberg(0-6, 6-4, 6-4). Kallberg was ranked 75th in the ITA Preseason Poll. In the final, Hanzlik fell to Virginia's Alex Domijian, ranked #2 in the preseason poll... Also earned wins at the ITA Atlantic Regional against St. Joseph's Alex Veronis(6-4, 6-0) and at the USTA Clay Court Invitational against Florida's Gordon Watson(6-2, 2-6, 10-1)... Hanzlik combined with Bryan Welnetz for an 8-0 win against UNC's Andrew Gores and Stuart DePaolo at the Ranked+1 Invitational. The duo also picked up two wins at the ITA Atlantic Regional against St. Joseph's Max Montague and Andres Urrea(8-1) and UMBC's Alex Drean and Juan Manual Aranzazu(8-2)... Began the non-conference slate with four straight wins, knocking off NC State's Dave Thomason(6-3, 2-6, 6-3), #69 Cornell's Alex Sidney(4-6, 6-4, 6-2), Cleveland State's Joe VanMeter(6-2, 6-2), and #39 New Mexico's Jadon Phillips(6-4, 2-6, 6-2)... Won nine matches during non-conference play... Claimed Big Ten victories against Iowa's Garrett Dunn(6-1, 6-3), #57 Nebraska's Andre Stenger(6-2, 7-5), Wisconsin's Alexander Kostanov(7-5, 6-1), and #34 Northwestern's Raleigh Smith(3-6, 7-6(8), 1-0(11-9))... Hanzlik and Welnetz paired up for an 8-5 doubles win against Cleveland State. Combined with Roman Trkulja for doubles wins against Penn and Lehigh.
2011-12 Season (Freshman): Hanzlik had an outstanding freshman campaign, posting a 12-11 spring singles record, including 2-3 against nationally ranked opponents, while also going 4-8 in spring doubles matches... Went 8-4 in singles and 2-6 in doubles during the fall... Opened the fall season with a 4-0 singles performance at the Farnsworth/Princeton Invitational ... Hanzlik followed that performance with a 3-1 effort at the UVa Fall Classic and combined with Jason Lee to also go 2-1 in doubles... Hanzlik defeated William & Mary's John Banks 6-2, 7-6(2-0) at the ITA Regional Championships before falling to Virginia Tech's Lucas Oliveira... At the Big Ten Indoor Championships, Hanzlik defeated Iowa's Marc Bruche, ranked no. 101, 6-7, 6-3, 7-6... Hanzlik entered the spring season ranked number 80... Went 8-4 in singles against non-conference opponents, including wins in seven of the first eight matchups. The stretch included a win against #63 Princeton's Matt Spindler(6-3, 6-7(2-7), 6-1). Also went 3-1 in doubles, with wins against St. Bonaventure, Bloomsburg, and Bucknell... Played in the two or three spot for non-conference, but worked up to number one spot for most of conference play... Won four straight matchups in Big Ten play against Iowa, #70 Nebraska, #47 Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Streak was highlighted by 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 win against Nebraska's Christopher Aumeller, ranked #79 in the nation. Highlight of Big Ten doubles play was combining with Taylor Cohen for an 8-6 win over #46 Northwestern's Sidarth Balaji and Tobias Reitz. Dropped tough doubles matchups against #47 Minnesota, #23 Illinois, and #21 Michigan.
Junior Career: Tomas Hanzlik joins the Nittany Lions as the International Tennis Federation No. 83 ranked junior world player, earning a 71-67 record on the ITF junior circuit. Hanzlik was ranked in the top eight junior players in his native Czech Republic. Hanzlik participated in the junior qualifying draws of the French Open and U.S. Open and entered the main draw of the prestigious Orange Bowl Junior Championship. He has also competed in the Eddie Herr Junior Championship. Hanzlik was selected to represent the Czech Republic on the Under 18 squad in the Galta Cup. He was crowned national doubles champion in 2009 and was victorious in the Under 14 and Under 12 singles national championships, as well.
